ARREST MADE IN MONTPELIER STABBING (UPDATE)

On Monday, February 20, 2023, at approximately 8:25 PM the Montpelier Police Department responded to a report of a stabbing at the Montpelier Transit Center, located at 61 Taylor Street in the city of Montpelier, Vermont.

The victim was reportedly stabbed multiple times and was immediately transferred to the Central Vermont Medical Center for treatment by Montpelier Ambulance Service.

The victim was identified as Gabriel Deangelis (38) of Montpelier, Vermont.  Deangelis was working for the Good Samaritan Haven, which was operating the warming shelter inside the Montpelier Transit Center at the time of this incident.

Deangelis was stabbed ten (10) times and suffered significant injuries as a result of this incident.

The suspect was identified as Aydan Jestice (18) of Marshfield, Vermont and he fled the scene prior to MPD’s arrival.

With the assistance of Barre City Police and Vermont State Police, Jestice was located and arrested at approximately 10:28 PM.  Jestice was in the presence of a 15-year-old runaway at the time of the stabbing and the time of his arrest.

Officers applied for and executed a search warrant on Jestice’s backpack and located the suspected knife and the clothing Jestice was wearing at the time of the encounter.

Jestice was held on $50,000 dollars bail and lodged at the Northeast Correctional Center pending arraignment on charges of Attempted Murder, Aggravated Assault and Disorderly Conduct.  He is scheduled to appear at Washington County Superior Court-Criminal Division on 02/21/2023 at 12:30 hours.
