The City of Montpelier, VT - City Government invests significantly in the training of its police officers in order to provide the highest quality service, reduce liability, and retain skilled, experienced personnel.
Much of our training is conducted internally by department members who are certified instructors in a wide variety of areas, including response to mental health crisis, defensive tactics, and firearms, among others.
Other in-service training is conducted through the Vermont Police Academy, other agency's instructors, and organizations and educational institutions in the New England region. Periodically our officers will travel to training sites and conferences around the country in order to remain at the cutting edge in specialized areas, such as mental health, crisis negotiation, and juvenile and sexual crimes. We are a small department, but we respond to and investigate the same variety of crimes as anywhere else and must be able to do so effectively.
Pictured here, our Defensive Tactics Instructors, Officer Alesha Donovan and Corporal Sam Lambert, demonstrate a control and restraint technique during recent use of force training.
