It’s no secret that the rising cost of living is affecting all of us right now

It’s no secret that the rising cost of living is affecting all of us right now. But for low-income Vermonters, the spiraling costs of groceries, gas, heating fuel, childcare and rent all together create an impossible situation. We see this every day at our Food Shelf, which had a 40% increase in visits this year.

Capstone’s Food Shelf is a crucial resource for Central Vermonters trying to make ends meet with skyrocketing prices. If you visited the Food Shelf on any of the four days it’s open weekly, you would find friendly staff greeting single moms with kiddos in tow, older folks relying on social security, homeless individuals with limited kitchen access, and working families facing an unexpected challenge. Here at Capstone, these quietly struggling Vermonters shop with dignity for pantry staples, dairy products, eggs, meats, produce, frozen meals prepared by our Community Kitchen Academy students, and other daily essentials.

But we can’t fight hunger alone.

Our 7th annual Fuel Your Neighbors campaign, powered by VSECU, starts on Giving Tuesday (November 29) to raise $300,000 in 100 days for our emergency food and heating assistance programs. When you give to Fuel Your Neighbors, you are providing Central Vermonters with nutritious food and prepared meals in a welcoming and respectful space.

Your donation of $25, $50, $100 or $250 will help our neighbors make ends meet as they face the current challenges in our state. Please help ensure no Vermonters have to choose between heating their homes and feeding their families this winter. Your gift made today will double its impact with a $1 for $1 match thanks to our generous community partners, VSECU and The Alchemist.
