Homicide is a leading cause of death for pregnant women in an abusive intimate partner relationship. Women of ALL cultural backgrounds are at an increased risk of physical abuse during pregnancy. In a 2014 study published by BMC medicine showed that 25% of DV survivors reported experiencing reproductive coercion (abusers forcing their partners to get pregnant). Being unable to get an abortion directly tethers a survivor to her abusive partner.
Access to reproductive care is directly associated with our work to help end domestic and sexual violence within our communities and our world.
