Rutland County ranked ninth in state for resident earnings in 2017

Rutland County ranked ninth among counties in Vermont by annual earnings per resident, according to data obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau in August.

The median income of Rutland County residents was an inflation-adjusted $27,174 per year. Rutland County had 25,160 households in 2017, with a population of 59,676.

The county with the highest median resident income in the state was Grand Isle County. Grand Isle County's median income was $34,675 per year after adjusting for inflation – $7,501 more than Rutland County. It had 2,952 households in 2017 and a population of 6,950.

Essex County had the lowest annual resident income among counties in Vermont, with a median income of only $21,415 per year. That was $5,759 less than the median income in Rutland County at the time. Essex County had 2,720 households in 2017 and a population of 6,203.
